Remodeling can be tricky, and one of the most challenging rooms in the entire house is the bathroom. Bathroom remodeling presents many aesthetic and logistical challenges, many of which are very intimidating to homeowners. However, a bathroom remodel doesn’t have to be scary. Here are some of the tips, tricks, and hacks I tell my bathroom remodeling clients.
Whatever you do, don’t move your plumbing.
Moving plumbing to a new location is one of the costliest things you can possibly do during a remodel. Since everyone wants to keep their budget down, do whatever you can to keep the plumbing in the same place, and instead just focus your time and money on improving what you’ve got. If you can, try to keep your fixtures the same as well. Often, all you’ll need is a good cleaning to put them back in tip-top shape.
Add a frame to your mirror to hide damage.
If your mirror is starting to look beat up around the edges, this does not mean you have to replace it. All you need to do is get a great frame, and all of a sudden your mirror will look much more appealing and stylish.
Use local flea markets and vintage stores to find decor pieces.
You can find tons of great updates for your bathroom in unlikely places, such as a flea market. You can find new fixtures, lighting, storage, even sinks in bargain shops with a little bit of creativity. If you’re willing to spend time refurbishing them yourself, you can make even more out of the purchase.
Use a new coat of paint to transform dull items.
Even the oldest, dingiest parts of your bathroom can likely be transformed into something new with a coat of paint. Adding new color to the space makes it feel much more lively and welcoming, but it’s something that’s inexpensive and very easy to do.
